Halifax Co, VA (6/18 update): FOSTERS are full -- LOTS of Beagles, senior Cocker, several HW+ dogs

The Halifax County Humane Society is working to help the dogs in their high kill local pound, but they are also in desperate need of rescues to take in the animals that are already in fosters to free up room for out of time pound dogs. The foster dogs are safe… but local adoptions are practically nonexistent and these dogs need to move to rescue to get a chance at a forever home. BUDDY is a handsome adult male Black & Tan Coonhound. He was recently hit by a car and had a leg amputated – he gets around fine. He is beautifully housetrained though currently not kept inside most of the time. He loves attention and has wonderful pleading eyes! He is gentle with children and would make a great couch potato. He is so deserving of a loving home. Buddy showed up as a stray at a kind couple’s home and they are providing temporary care for him but he really needs a rescue or permanent home. He weighs about 60 lbs and is good with cats and other dogs.

BEAUTIFUL GIRL is a gorgeous adult female Redbone Coonhound mix who was adopted from the shelter back in January and then was later found running loose after having a litter of puppies. She is also unfortunately HW positive and desperately needs a rescue to help her. She is a beautiful deep red color and is SPAYED and current on her vaccines. She is very sweet and is good with other dogs.

GIRLFRIEND is an adorable tan SPAYED female Lab/Pit mix who showed up at a kind person’s house but needs a home ASAP since the landlord is unhappy with the number of dogs on the property. She weighs about 50 lbs and is great with other dogs.

SIMBA is an adorable brindle and white 6 month old male Boxer mix puppy. He desperately needs a rescue/foster home ASAP. From his current foster mom:
Update-11/25-Simba is the best boy. I just love him and wish others could see what I see. He is very playful and LOVES squeaky toys!. He gets along great with all the other dogs and seems fine with cats as well. He sleeps all night in his crate, whining in the morning when he knows it is time to go outside to go to the bathroom. He is doing great with housebreaking as well. Simba's foster has a large number of dogs and would love for Simba to be adopted so he can get more attention. We think he would do best with another doggie friend in the household. Simba needs someone who can continue with his confidence building. He will jump on the couch for a snuggle and gives lots of sloppy kisses. We are currently working on his leash walking. When he feels a tug on the leash, he stops and rolls over on his back in submission. He will get the hang of it eventually.
Can someone please give this guy a chance? We would love to find this guy a foster home who can work with him one on one. He desperately needs help.
This guy has the prettiest brindle coat. He is a shy guy and will need some patience, but he loves other dogs. He plays and plays! He is around 6 months old and had up to date on vaccines. He bounces around wiggling and wagging his tail, but when you pet him, he cowers to the ground.

FELIX is a beautiful fawn adult male Shepherd/Lab mix who has had a tough life and is hoping for a rescue to help him find a happy ending! His previous owner gave him no vet care at all, even after he was injured. He has been shot and had two back legs broken but still remains the sweetest of boys. The vet felt that one of the back legs could not be fixed because the injury was old and already healed. He would need to see a specialist. He did fix the other back leg with pins and Felix is starting to put weight on that one but when he wants to move fast he rocks forward on his two front legs and trots along. His injuries may be costly to treat but he has such a wonderful attitude – here’s hoping he gets some help.11/25 update-Felix should have his pins removed in early December. We are pleading with anyone who has experience w/ doggie wheelchairs to please help Felix. He is not progressing like we had hoped and don't think it is fair for Felix to not be able to give him what he needs. We would love for Felix to be taken in by a rescue group who is prepared to deal with his injuries.

Updated: Felix has had one of his legs removed and is much happier now! He is great with kids, dogs and cats!

Poor JUNIOR is an adorable 10 year old buff male Cocker Spaniel. He was surrendered to the shelter by his owner and was in rough shape. He has an eye infection, an ear infection and hair loss. He’s getting some medical help but he really needs a rescue to find him a new home and continue his treatments!
Update 4/17--Junior is the best little wigglebutt! When he wags his nub, his whole hind end wiggles around. He is very affectionate and loves to snuggle. Junior's ears are clearing up nicely. He is still having problems with dry skin, but it is much, much better and not so itchy. We are putting ointment in his eyes daily for dry eyes as well. He is looking so good and now he just needs a home of his own! Don't let his age turn you away. He still has many years of love left to give. Plus, he is completely housebroken and trustworthy to be left loose in the house! He is an easy going, loving boy!

RIPPLES is a fabulous fawn colored 5-6 month old male Pit mix puppy. Please don’t overlook him because of his breed! He is super sweet, loves playing with other dogs, loves kids and is a happy boy with a sunny disposition!

Sweet DOZER is a friendly black and tan adult male Beagle mix who has never met a stranger! He is great with other dogs. Dozer is, however, HW+ and needs a rescue to take him in for his treatment. Please help this sweet guy.

FABLE is a gorgeous reddish tan adult female Beagle mix – maybe with some Golden in there? She is very sweet and only weighs about 40 lbs. She is unfortunately HW+ and needs a rescue to help her. She’s a tail wagging beauty!

HAPPY TRIP is a CUTE black and white young male Beagle or mix. He was surrendered with his buddy Imp. He was a little shy at first but has come out of his shell and is just wonderful. He gets along great with other dogs.

LILY is a tiny, tiny black and tan Beagle girl who is lucky to be alive. She was found dodging traffic on a very busy highway and would have surely gotten hit if someone didn’t stop and save her. She is very sweet, a little timid, and the perfect size for your lap. She is an older girl and just wants a place to lay her head. Can someone give her a chance?

IMP is a beautiful tricolor Beagle girl who was surrendered to the shelter along with her buddy Happy Trip. She was shy at the shelter but has come out of her shell and is ready to find a home. She is HW+ and has started treatment but needs a rescue to help her!

These two adorable girls are 5-6 month old female Husky mixes. They are sweet and they are ready to go to rescue and find a home! One is a pale light red brindle and the other is a reddish sable and white.

BATMAN is a big and handsome sable and tan young male Shepherd mix. He was given up by his elderly owner because he was too much dog for him to handle… no shock there, this is a BIG boy who still has lots of puppy in there! Batman loves EVERYONE and wiggles his whole body with joy when you visit with him. He is great with other dogs and has a great attitude. He is catching on quickly with some training and would be a great addition to just about any home.

GILLY is a happy 6 month old black male Shepherd mix. Look at that grin! He is sweet, outgoing and fun.

Poor little JILL is a tricolor ~7 year old female Beagle who was found at a dumpster. She loves people so much that she literally ran after the car as it went down the road to find someone to love her. Of course her foster couldn’t leave this sweet girl behind! Beagles are VERY hard to place in this area and she really needs to find a rescue that can find her a forever home. She is good with other dogs and is putting on some weight. Happy girl!

PATCHES is a handsome young adult male Beagle or mix. He is white with red patches and has the sweetest face!

HUNTER is yet *another* Halifax Beagle needing rescue help. He is a red and white adult male and is a sweetie but he did test HW+ and needs a rescue to help him out!

Poor little LINUS was hit by a car and his owner didn’t bother to take him to the vet… just let him lay there and wait while he waited for animal control to come get him. Linus is now in foster care and is being evaluated. And to make matters worse, he’s HW+! He could really use some help. Linus is a sweet adult male tricolor Beagle.

MISS CLARA is another beautiful tricolor adult female Beagle who unfortunately has tested HW+. She is very sweet and is hoping for a chance!

PETIE is a handsome adult DSH tabby NEUTERED male who is looking for an indoor home. He has lived the first few years of his life as a barn cat and lost an eye with an unknown injury. He really wants to be an indoor cat instead!

JOEY is a handsome adult NEUTERED male DSH orange tabby cat. He is sweet and friendly and is looking for a new home!

PEPE is a sweet 9-10 month old NEUTERED DSH black male kitten. He has been in his foster since he was a little kitten and he’s hoping there’s a home out there for him!

BUTTONS is a gorgeous longhaired orange and white NEUTERED male adult cat. He is very shy but very sweet. He does not usually seek attention but once he gets used to you he likes hanging out with you! Buttons has lived outside as a barn cat for a while and somewhere along the line ended up with a broken pelvis. He gets along fine but moves a little slower. He really needs an indoor home!
