The Wetzel County shelter is working hard to find homes for their animals but they are in need of rescue help. ELMER is a handsome 2 year old NEUTERED male Treeing Walker Coonhound. Every LOVES this sweet boy – he doesn’t hunt, he’s a pet. He is afraid of men but he will make up with them after he knows he can trust them. He is not aggressive, he just tries to hide. He is shy with strangers at first until he knows you. Elmer does NOT like cats.

TREASURE F Beagle, tricolor, adult, medium
Treasure is a sweet girl that was found abandoned in the country. She does well with the other dogs but prefers to be alone. They are a little overwhelming for her. Sweet girl. More details soon.

BROOKLYN M Jack Russell/Beagle mix, white w/tan patches, 1 yr, 17 lbs
Very cute...alert...little guy...check back for details. UPDATE: He is a 1 year old, 17 lb., JRT/beagle mix. Very intellingent & playful. Good with other dogs. We were told the owner moved away & left it, and it was running free for about a month.

TWINKLE F Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix, brown/black, 10 mos, 15 lbs
JRT/Chi mix. About 10 months old... 15 lb. Good with other dogs. Very playful & smart. Needs a family to spend lots of time playing & loving her. UPDATE: She is a loving and sweet. She wants to play but doesn't act as if she ever had anyone or any other dog to play with. She is learning to play well with the foster's owned dogs. Follows them around running and romping a little. Twinkles is good in the crate, quiet & clean. Progressing nicely with housetraining. Waits her turn to eat, not finicky. Does fine with kitties.

JUNE BUG F Boxer mix, brindle w/white chest, 2-3 yrs, large
Boxer mix...was abandoned by the owner. Was found tied to a box with little newborn babies. She was very emaciated. Approx. 2-3 yr. old. Very watchful of her pups. Very loving and sweet girl. Seems to do well with other dogs as long as they are not around her pups which are less than 1 week old.

BANDIT M Beagle/Boxer mix, lemon/white, 2 yrs, medium

Two year old lemon/beagle/boxer mix. has been kept in a kennel outdoors. Eager to please and love. Does will with other dogs. Needs to be an indoor/family pet for the rest of his life.

CHAOS M Boxer mix, charcoal/white, 6-7 yrs, 55 lbs

Chaos was brought in by owner. He has been tied out for the last 2 yrs since they found him as a stray dumped @ their home. He has been quiet and well mannered since being with us. Doing well with the other dogs and with everyone he meets. Face looks more elderly than his teeth. Does not seem to hear well. Walks on leash like a dream. If you can help this ol' feller it would be so great. he deserves to live out his years like a king. We guesstimate his age to be approx 6 - 7 yrs. Approx 55lb. thin.

Babe is a sweet girl that was abandoned @ the shelter after being dumped near someone's home. She is loving, quiet and sweet. babe is confused right now and very docile. Beautiful dog.

Cheech was an abandoned dog. Approx 1 yo. Lots of puppy and love in him!!! Does well with the other dogs and doesn't seem to mind kitties. Loves everyone. Loves to hug... you can tell he has been starved for attention and love.

CASEY F Shepherd mix, sable, 1 yr, 40 lbs - SPAYED

CASEY- shy but sweet girl, approx 1 yo, approx 40lb... tall and slim. Was dumped in the country. "hung around" someone's house for 3 mths prior to coming to us. Came in very very thin and eating everything we gave her upon arrival. Was shy but loving right away. Spayed on 6/6/08.

Young housetrained adult (3 yrs. old)...Big love bug.. approx 100lbs..loves children...other animals...housetrained but crated when home alone due to chewing..rides well in cars...Wonderful guy ...owner must relinquish due to health problems..

DOUG M Hound mix, tricolor, adult, 50 lbs

Doug is shy of strangers as many of his breed is.. Once you take him for a walk and show him you are his buddy he will remember you for life though. He has long velvet ears and a very sharp but sweet face and such intelligent eyes. He does well with other dogs, but we don't recommend this type dog with cats. Doug looks like a Walker Coon Hound but some say he looks like he may have fox hound in him also... He is small for the breed.. approx 50lb. He is a sweet shy easy going boy that stole our hearts. Not noisy and doesn't act like your "typical coonhound". We let him run loose when we walk other dogs and he runs and barks and plays with them,, playing games with us also by running full speed like he thinks we are going to leave him when he wanders away from us for any distance. (we don't recommend letting them run loose). WATCH THE VIDEO!!! He is just such a sweet wonderful boy. Coonhounds do not have it easy in this area. They are dumped often and do not get adopted. They fate is usually not good, but we wanted to give this boy a fair shot so if you are interested, please do the application from our home page ASAP!!!!

DAMON M Shepherd mix, black/tan, 5 yrs, large

Owner relinquished. Damon has been an "outdoor dog". We are told that he did do well indoors in the garage so we are guessing that he will train quickly. He is intelligent and eager to please. Does not run away when off leash (we don't recommend that!!!) and seems very loyal. Walks great on leash! Is extra large for his breed. Does NOT like cats. Does fine with other dogs. Damon does not bark.. he makes a sound that sounds like he is saying "ma ma". Damon is approx 5 yo and ready for his Indoor Forever Home!!! Can climb chainlink. and open gates... he is super intelligent.

BUD M Golden Retriever/Chow mix, reddish tan, 5 yrs, large

Bud is approx 5 yrs old. He was tied to a box for his entire life till coming to us. He is a wonderful boy that is eager to please people. He learns so quickly and loves everyone he comes in contact with. Bud loves hugs, kisses, and any affection or company. He is so neat. He does not use the bathroom in his kennel for 18+ hours. bud does like to mark when he first goes indoors but will stop with voice command. He has not had indoor training as we don't have that luxury but he would learn quickly like he does everything. When you put a leash on him, he waits for you to go out of the kennel before he goes out...he walks like a dream...he will sit and give paw ...he is gentle with his toys...bud is just thrilled with anything you can give him. We have had him neutered and vetted. Bud's only issue is with other dogs. He has not been socialized and does not understand what they are and how he is supposed to interact with them. This said, we would not want him in a home with other cats or dogs at this point. We are looking for a great rescue to take him into a home setting and work with him to socialize him with other dogs (and housetrain him) or a forever home with knowledge, love, and time to help him be the dog he can be.

ROCKY M Beagle, tricolor w/ticking, 3 yrs, medium

Rocky is approx 3 yo. He was brought in by the Dog Warden from someone who no longer wanted them. He came in with his brother Jack. They have been outdoors their whole lives but are very neat boys. They do spill their food as they seem to want to root and bury it but (not sure what the food situation was like prior) but they do not use the bathroom in their 10x10 concrete kennel. Naturally clean. They are well mannered and loving. If you can help them please let us know ASAP...we get soooo many beagles and hounds in. www.wetzelpets.petfinder.com UPDATE: Wonderful with children. Knows how to play fetch. We prefer that Rocky & Jack go together because they love each other so much, but it is not a requirement.

CHONG M Chihuahua/Terrier mix, sable w/white, 1 yr, 15 lbs

Chong is such a lover. He follows you around like a little shadow and listens so well. He is so appreciative of any attention bestowed upon him. approx 1 yo, approx 15lb, loves people, other dogs and fine with kittys.

JAMES M Min Pin mix, black/rust, 5 mos, medium

James was dumped about 1 1/2 mths ago on a girl in town. She took it in and kept it but because of personal circumstances had to bring it in today. James is an alert, loving, playful little guy. He doesn't quite understand the concept of sharing his food or his toys with other dogs. He acts almost like a spoiled child who will not allow them near his "stuff"... He does need to learn to share. He Is approx 5 1/2 mths old. Will be a medium size dog.

1 yo collie/aussie x... a little shy but very sweet and absolutely no aggression. Was thrown out with a litter of pups that were not hers.. she was very pregnant when found... we spayed her.
