Amherst, VA (7/21 Update): Cute Hounds, Am Staff mix mom and puppies, chocolate Lab mix, MORE!

**Help is especially needed for adult dogs – puppies almost always get rescued!**

GILLIAN F Beagle, tricolor, 6-7 yrs, 35lbs
Gillian is a very calm, sweet, friendly Beagle. We send Gillian to the vet today for her rabies shot, heart worm test and exam. She is 6 to 7 years old, heartworm negative and needs to go on a crash diet! Gillian weighs about 35 pounds. She is very people and gives lots of love and companionship. Please consider adopting our sweetheart. She is happy all the time!! Very sweet, great with other dogs!

HOPE F Greyhound/Catahoula mix, brindle/white, 3-4 yrs, 50 lbs
No dog should ever be treated like Hope was: Hope was thrown out of a moving car but she was lucky that her guardian angels were following right behind. They stopped, got her out of traffic (at great risk) and into their car and took her to a local veterinarian hospital. It was discovered that she had just had puppies, and still had afterbirth which was removed. (It is not known the fate of her puppies.) She still has milk for her puppies :( Hope's guardian angels are going to foster her until she can be adopted into a loving home. She is 3-4 years old and weighs about 50 pound. It has been proven that Hope is very good with children. She is extremely friendly and very, very sweet. In otherwords, a great dog! PEPPER F Shih Tzu/Terrier mix, charcoal, 7-8 yrs, 10+ lbs
Pepper is a very small dog -- weighing in at around 10+ pounds and is about 7 to 8 years old. She is available for adoption now. Pepper is dog friendly, current on all shots, including rabies and is heartworm negative! Pepper is very matted but we will give her future home a gift certificate for $ 25. towards grooming at Yvonne's K-9 Style House. We are sure she will be goreous after her trim! She has a calm/quiet disposition and does well on a leash. When she is happy she speaks to you!!

BROWNIE M Beagle/Shepherd mix, black/tan, 1-2 yrs, large
Brownie came in with his brother Troop. Both are beagle/shepherd mixes. Brownie has unusual, amazing blue eyes. He is about 1+ years old and extremely friendly. His owner surrendered him because she was moving. Dog friendly. Available now!

TROOP M Beagle/Shepherd mix, black/tan with white paws, 1-2 yrs, 45 lbs
Troop came in with his brother Brownie. Both are handsome, friendly beagle/shepherd mixes. Troop weighs about 45 pounds and is 1-1/2 years old. Both are available now for adoption. Both are friendly and playful dogs - they are fun and are always excited to meet people! Great dogs. My real name was Husky.

JAKE M Shepherd/Lab mix, tan, 1-2 yrs, 40 lbs
Jake was just surrendered to our shelter. He was owned by a son of a woman that tells us she was tired of seeing the dog outside on a leash all day. He is very sweet, he is dog friendly, he was not given an opportunity to live with the family like he deserves. He deserves better. This is no life for a dog so they did the right thing in giving another family a chance to have a great companion dog. Jake is about 1 1/2 years old and is very well socialized considering his circumstances. PLEASE give Jake a chance at a family life. He is available for a home now and weighs 40 lbs.

APRIL F Beagle mix, tricolor, adult, small
April is a little timid and shy in our shelter, but very sweet and responsive. She is small for a beagle and has a slightly shaggier coat. She has the wonderful beagle demeanor and just needs a little TLC. Come visit April and see if she is the dog for you!

AUSTIN M Hound mix, tricolor, adult, 35-40 lbs
Austin is a hound mix who came in as a stray. He is calm on the leash, playful and friendly, and weighs about 35 or 40 pounds. He has a little gray to his muzzle but doesn't appear to be more than a few years old. He is available for adoption on 7-18

RIO M Hound mix, tricolor, 1 yr, 45 lbs
Rio came in to our shelter as a stray with Austin. Rio appears to be only about a year old and was not leash trained but otherwise sweet and friendly. He is larger than Austin, about 45 pounds and had a collar on (black, with "Bad to the Bone" on it). He will be available on 7-22.

MILLER M Chesapeake Bay Retriever/Lab mix, chocolate, adult, large
Miller is a sweet senior dog. He looks like a Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix, with a liver colored nose. He is friendly, walks on a leash, and has some wear on his teeth. He would make a good companion for someone who wants a laid back older dog.

SHEILA F Am Staff mix, brindle w/white chest, adult, medium
Sheila is an American Staffordshire mix who just came in with two of her puppies. We believe there are two more pups out there to be found and brought in. She is a lovely, friendly brindle, a little on the thin side.

SHEILA’S PUPS M Am Staff/Hound mix, one brindle & one brindle/white, puppy, large
These pups just came in and appear to be Am. Staffordshire and hound mix. They are available on 7-22. These two are males and there are probably more from this litter coming in soon.

WIGGLES F Corgi/Basset Hound mix, tricolor, 10-12 wks, 15 lbs
What a cutie pie -- Wiggles is a very sweet little puppy; she is 10-12 weeks old and weighs about 15 pounds. She loves to play and is very people oriented. Wiggles is in a kennel with 2 other small dogs and she gets along great with them. We named her Wiggles because she wiggles while playing. She will be available for adoption on 7/22, but you can come and see her now, so hurry on down.

DRAKE M Basset Hound mix, tricolor, 4 yrs+, 25 lbs
Drake is a very handsome boy -- walks great on a leash, very people friendly, and will make a very good companion. Drake is probably 4 years+ and weighs 25 pounds. He will be available for adoption on 7/22 but you can come and see him now. As you can see from his picture, he has adorable written all over him.
