Arby is a five month old Golden Retreiver mix. She is very well behaved and will do most anything for a treat. She is fairly laid back for one so young and would make an excellent family pet. Otis is a one year old Bichon Frise/Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen mix. He came into the RVSPCA along with his "brother" Chino as a stray. This is a 1.5 year old Airedale Terrier mix named Cinnamon who was given up by her owner because they did not want her any more. She is very sweet and jumps up on people a lot. Baby is a 9 year old cocker mix that was surrendered by her owner with a Brittany Spaniel, Jake. Jake has already gone to rescue and now it is Baby's turn to get out of here! She has an excellent temperament and seems to be good around other calm dogs. She is very overweight and has a mass on the left side of her neck. She has chronic ear infections that need to be treated. Otherwise she is a sweet old girl. Sheba is a one year old black/white shepherd/pit bull mix. She has a lot of energy but has picked up quickly on the proper behaviors in the short time that she's been at the shelter. Sheba's owner could no longer care for her and brought her into the shelter so that she could find a new home. She has some obedience training, walks well on a leash and is housetrained. Curtis is a one year old Cattledog. His owner brought him into the shelter because he has too much energy. Curtis has been misunderstood. Cattledogs must have a job to do in order to be happy and content. They also have high energy and require a household with a lot of activity going on. King George, VA (5/12 Update): Dobie mix long timer, Setter mixes, lots of cats, MORE

As of May 10, 2008, the following dogs and cats are available at the King George Animal Control. If you see a dog or cat you can rescue or foster for possible transport later, please call the shelter at 540-775-2120 IMMEDIATELY!!! I am able to help pull/transport animals if you are a rescue group and have your paperwork on file at the shelter (see #5 below for details – email Dani at shelterhelp@kgarl.org). Reasonable transport may be provided upon request, but very long distance transports will be your responsibility. I am also able to help get the animals vaccines (rabies, distemper, parvo) before any transports.

Please pass their photos and info onto rescue organizations that you may know who could save them.

King George Animal Control is located at 11220 Henry Griffin Road, King George, VA 22485. This is a kill shelter and all animals need homes or rescues. King George Animal Control is open 10:00 am – 1:00 pm Monday, Friday, or Saturday; 10:00 am - 3:00 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday; closed Holidays and Sundays.

Hi there! I am a young, unaltered boy who has a lovely yellow coat. I do have a lot of the young lab energy still and would guess I am around 2 years old, give or take. I am really sweet and I loved being visited by a young child recently. I was running around trying to find someone to play with when I got picked up. I am already to go, so come out and meet me!

Well, hello there stranger. I was taken from my owner because they were forgetting to feed me. I was only bones when I came in, so the staff affectionately calls me Bones. Though I was severely underweight when they got me, I have filled out and now am a nice weight and am all ready to go. I have not let my bad experience dissuade my positive opinion of humans; I absolutely love them. I am not food aggressive, either. I am a big, unaltered boy, weighing around 70lbs and am a gentle giant. I am not sure how old I am, but I do have a little graying around the muzzle showing I am not a puppy anymore. My bags are packed and I am ready for my new home… will that be you?

It’s so nice to meet you! I am a very sweet, younger girl around 2 years old. I was out wandering around away from my puppies when I got picked up. No one is sure what happened to them, so I am a bit sad right now. I am still full of milk, so I don’t quite have my girly figure back yet. I am medium sized, about 45lbs, and am not real hyper. I am pretty quiet and low key. I enjoyed the attention I got today and was ready to pose for the picture. I am available now, and I sure do look forward to meeting you!

Well, hello there! How are you? I am a sweet, unaltered boy who came up to the Animal Control worker for some loving when I got brought here. I am a bit shy being in this kennel, but otherwise I am outgoing and sweet. I am around a year old and have some very lovely yellow eyes. My photographer tried very hard to get a picture of them, but wouldn’t you know, I blinked for each picture. I will be ready to go on the 16^th of May, so until then, it was a pleasure to meet you.

Hi there. I am an unaltered adult boy who is feral. I am a little intimidated with my new surroundings and don’t know what to think of all this. I am a huge boy weighing roughly 12lbs, but I am not overweight, just large. I have some nice green eyes and a pretty coat. I will be ready to go on the 14^th of May and look forward to meeting you.

Hello. I am an adult female who is not altered. I am feral, so I am quite shy around people. I am a bit slim and weigh only about 7lbs. I was caught in a trap around McDaniel Drive and was brought here to find my new home. I won’t be available until May 13^th, but I hope it is with you!

Well hello there! I am a kennel mate with the orange guy who is very shy. I am not as shy as he is, but I do respond to his reactions. There is some confusion as to how I got here. I was told that I was brought here by someone, but my paperwork says I was a stray. I am an adult male who is unaltered and have a very soft black coat. I have some beautiful green eyes and do come to sniff you if you put your hand out for me. I will be available the 13^th of May and look forward to my new home!

Hi, hi, and hi again. I am a very young girl (only about 9 months at best) who is very eager to get some loving. Forget the treats and toys, all I want is you! I was so eager to get some attention that I was falling out of the kennel. I didn’t make it easy for some pictures to be taken of me because I didn’t want to hold still for them. I have a very soft orange and white coat and pretty gold eyes. I was trapped and brought in the same day my picture was taken, in fact I was still a little wet. I will be ready to go the 16^th of May and can’t wait to be loved on… oh sorry, I mean go home with you!

Hi there! I am a younger guy, about 2 years old, who has not been altered yet. I have a pretty grey coat and yellow eyes. I am listed as feral, but showed a lot of interest in the people I met today, though I was a little shy. I allowed them to touch me though, so I am not a mean guy! I was trapped a little while ago, so will be able to go on the 12^th of May and look forward to meeting you then!

Please know that King George Animal Control http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/VA258.html has rules for adoption which are outlined in the following paragraphs. If you a building a separate webpage with photos that are contained within this email, please be sure ensure that potential adopters are aware of these King George Animal Control guidelines.

(1) Spayed/Neutered cats or dogs may be adopted by anyone. Residents of King George have first option on available animals, over other individuals & organizations. Other eligible adopters may adopt available animals on a first come, first serve basis. Other Agencies & Certified Companion Animal Rescue Groups (501(c)(3) organizations) may also adopt animals per state law.

(2) Unsterilized animals may only be adopted by residents within King George, Westmoreland, Essex, Caroline, Spotsylvania, or Stafford Counties, and the city of Fredericksburg. Residents of King George have first option on available animals, over other individuals & organizations. Other eligible adopters may adopt available animals on a first come, first serve basis. Other Agencies & Certified Companion Animal Rescue Groups (501(c)(3) organizations) may also adopt animals per state law.

(3) If you are an individual (not representing a Certified Companion Animal Rescue Group) interested in adopting an "Unsterilized" dog or cat, and you do not reside in one of above mentioned Virginia counties, you will need to contact a qualified 501(c)(3) organization to adopt the animal for you. (4) I am able to help arrange local transports if you are a rescue group and have your paperwork on file at the shelter (see #5 for details). If you are not a 501(c)(3), I may still be able to help. Before I pull an animal, I ask that the receiving party contacts the shelter first to ensure the animal's temperament, size, age, breed, etc, is what you're looking for. (5) Those certified organizations that express interest in dogs and cats, if you have not already done so, please ensure the correct documentation is on file with the KGAC so that you may pull animals. King George Animal Control will require the following required documents to be faxed (540-775-5770) to them as per Virginia standards: (1) the rescue organization must fax their 501(c)(3) determination letter, and (2) the rescue organization must fax their "No Cruelty Disclosure" statement to the VA animal control facility. The "No Cruelty Disclosure" statement must be on the rescue organization's official letterhead and signed by a head officer of their organization. In the "No Cruelty Disclosure" statement you may need to add some words to the effect that no one in the organization has been convicted of animal cruelty. After you have faxed your documentation, please contact the shelter to confirm that your documentation has been approved. Once your documentation is on file at King George Animal Control, you are eligible to adopt dogs, cats, and other animals.

(6) Special rules for adoption apply to the adoption of Pitbull and Pitbull-Mix dogs. Please see the King George Animal Control website (http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/VA258.html) for details.

Franklin Co, VA (5/13 update): Beautiful dogs in temp fosters need help ASAP! Black Lab mix, two Walker Hounds, blonde Lab mix, MORE

The following dogs have been pulled from the Franklin County animal shelter into temporary foster homes and boarding after they ran out of time at the shelter. They need to find rescue ASAP, not only so they can find homes but so the next out of time dogs at the shelter can be pulled. CARMEN is an approx. 1 year old tricolor female Hound mix. She is very sweet and a little shy, vocal but not too much. She does well with cats and other dogs. She is working on leash training and does ok in a crate but is housebroken. She would be a great buddy for another dog!





NICKI is a pretty black and tan approx. 1 year old female Shepherd mix. She is a little unsure of herself and has the potential to become a really good girl with some TLC. She is shy and doesn't do very well with other dogs because of her insecurity. Desperately needs a foster home!






BUSTER is an adorable red and white 1-2 year old male Boxer mix. He is a really good boy who walks well on the leash and is playful and athletic. He is housebroken, very quiet, crate trained and gets along with other dogs and cats.

PHOEBE is a cute black and white 1 year old spayed female Border Collie/Terrier mix. She weighs about 40 lbs and is good with everyone. She is an active girl who is improving every day! She'd do very well in a foster-based rescue.

















TIRA MISU is a gorgeous black and white 2 year old female Lab mix. She is eager to please and has come a long way since getting out of the shelter!

MAX is a handsome approx 3 year old black and tan male Hound mix. He weighs about 60 lbs and has a horrible scar down his back. Despite his scars, he's a beauty! He gets along fine with other dogs and is a good boy.





LOTTIE is a sweetheart of a tricolor 5 year old female Walker Hound. She weighs about 55 lbs and is such a good girl!







HEIDI is a sweet 1+ year old blonde Lab/Shepherd mix. She is a good girl who is desperate for a rescue where she can go into a foster home. She is good with other dogs.
